“We talk about victims as survivors, but I definitely wasn’t a survivor until my case ended,” she said. “For two years in college, I was a victim. I almost miss being naïve. There’s so much safety and comfort in waking up without knowing your life could be destroyed in a moment.”
Sexual assault on college campuses is a big problem that – at least by the most widely cited estimate – affects one in every five women. A few weeks ago, I wrote about an effort in Illinois to make campuses safer and more responsive for victims. The movement is spearheaded by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
